CONFERENCE AIMS

• Exploring, through multidisciplinary lenses and the perspectives of diverse communities, cultures, groups and societies, the characteristics of language and narrative regarding environmental themes (e.g., climate change, drought, pollution, relationships with the physical environment and other species, sustainability, etc.).

• Understanding how individual and social ecological identity is constructed, emerges, and is (re)negotiated within dialogic and narrative contexts.

• Investigating the impact of specific linguistic and narrative choices on the perception of individual and collective responsibility and their potential to foster sustainable practices.

• Examining how and to what extent narrative models and media discourse shape public responses to global ecological challenges.

• Analyzing how ecological narratives and discourse can inspire learners of all ages – from primary school to higher education – to lead ecological transformation by integrating environmental storytelling and hands-on projects into formal educational settings.

The conference aims to foster a dialogue that crosses disciplinary boundaries to explore these research themes, providing a space where diverse and complementary perspectives can emerge and be combined. This dialogue draws upon studies in ecolinguistics and econarratology in their broadest sense, but also encompasses innovative perspectives from fields such as pragmatics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics (e.g., research on conceptual metaphors and embodied approaches to linguistic analysis), discourse analysis, and literary studies.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

We invite proposals for contributions related to one or more of the themes listed above.

Oral presentations will have a maximum duration of 30 minutes, including 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

The language of the conference will be English, but proposals can concern all languages. Studies regarding Italian and/or including interlinguistic and comparative perspectives are particularly welcomed.

The attached abstract must be anonymous, and should not exceed 500 words (including examples, excluding references). Author names, affiliations, and contact emails should be included only in the body of the email (email subject format: “REINVENT Surname Author(s)”).

The Scientific Committee will notify authors of the outcome of the evaluation by 31/01/2027.
